Make Multi-Media Count

Video/FLASH

“They” say a picture is worth a thousand words. While this has always been true, it’s relevant now because photography, and more importantly, video have found a new and expanding home on the Internet and even your increasingly irreplaceable mobile devices.

Personally, I have always felt the World Wide Web would never be all it could be until you could not only read it, but watch it too. Well it’s happening, and it is happening fast! It seems like only a few years ago you might have had a couple of video clips you could download from your favorite news or entertainment sites. They were slow, small and of questionable quality. As bandwidth and compression technologies continue to advance these issues are rapidly dissipating. Today, most consumer sites have some video components. Some sites like You Tube are completely video driven. Download speeds are quicker, frame size is expanding and quality is up.

Now why am I telling you something you likely already know? Because you need to start thinking about how video can help your company’s web site. Video can work to make your site more interesting and informative. It can help position your company as cutting edge, and likely, help separate you from the competition. From an impact and recall perspective, video is the strongest tool you have at your disposal.

New technology has brought us to the point where even the smallest companies on the tightest budgets can now include video within its web site. The question is no longer “can I include video in our web site,” but how do I use video content and the power of the web to better showcase our company and its products or services.

Creativity – Consistency – Continuity

Be clever, be creative and be brief. Your audience was raised on television. Their experience and thus expectations of video content are high. It doesn’t take a lot of money, but it does take a lot of thought. My best advice is talk to web broadcast or video professionals, especially if you have never been involved in video before. Shorter is better! Time is short and everyone is busy so your videos should be brief. Professional marketers are very good at selling products in :30 seconds. Think along those lines! It is also a good idea, because of file sizes and download times to keep your videos short.

Be consistent. ……….
